Software Development Internship - Summer 2018 - Minneapolis

Job Description
 As a Software Development Intern, you will work with our support and tools group to provide actionable intelligence on how our customers use DataScope Select. The outcome of this analysis will include the development of reports, dashboards and tools that provide quick visibility into the health of the system, a drill down into the causes of any problems and insights to prevent or quickly resolve customer issues. 

This internship will provide you with an opportunity to become familiar with or deepen your knowledge of big data infrastructures such as Hadoop and Apache Spark, cloud tools in AWS as well as tools such as Tableau for report and dashboard design. You may also be responsible for requirements gathering, design and construction of the tool in C++, Python, Java or another agreed-upon language. 

Responsibilities: • Learn the existing systems quickly, and work with a small team on designing and implementing reports and dashboards • Diagnose root causes of problems or issues identified through analysis • Build knowledge in big data to support ongoing tool development or ideation • Requirements gathering and possible tool development • Support training and rollout of reports and tools • Other duties as assigned Skills & Profile: • Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills • Passionate about learning new technologies • Ability to prioritize work and communicate issues in a timely manner • Ability to work independently or as part of an agile development team

Average Intern Pay: $25.00 Hour

Qualifications: • Currently a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline meeting program academic requirements • Day-to-day use of a UNIX or Linux variant within the past three years • Understanding of basic programming tasks • Familiarity with a relational database (MS SQL, Oracle) • Familiarity with Hadoop and Apache Spark • Familiarity with Excel, especially building pivot tables

This summer internship requires a full-time commitment from late May/early June through mid- to late August, with a potential opportunity to extend into the fall and spring. Thomson Reuters will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position now or in the future.
