Payroll and Benefits Specialist A+ Federal Credit Union - Austin, TX

The Role:

  • Research, analyze and resolve difficult or technical problems/questions presented by employees or outside agency representatives using knowledge of common problems and entire payroll functions
  • Maintain and process payroll records and reports for accounting of salary/wages due, accruals, deductions and other payroll functions
  • Conduct training sessions for departmental payroll representatives to explain payroll/timekeeping policies and procedures
  • Act as liaison by answering payroll questions, providing alternatives and facilitating decision-making
  • Update employee information in timekeeping and other credit union systems
  • Assist in the administration and communication of the company’s benefits program in regard to plan options, policy features, enrollment and other requirements
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefits including enrollments, updates and wellness program
  • Assist in coordinating the annual open enrollment process for the organization
  • Coordinate enrollments, changes in contributions and withdrawals from 401(k) plans
  • Provide advice and assistance to employees regarding benefit/compensation issues
  • Maintain accrued leave records
  • Conduct new employee orientation and on-boarding of new hires to ensure an effective employee on-boarding experience
  • Act as liaison for employee complaints and problems; provide guidance to managers with employee relations issues
  • Responsible for researching and preparing TWC claim requests/hearing material
  • Assist in maintaining all FMLA records to ensure the Credit Union is in compliance with all federal and state regulations


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from four-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience (Preferred)
  • 1+ years of Benefits and Payroll -- (Required)
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) -- (Preferred)
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook (Preferred)
  • Excellent skill in Excel (Required)
  • 1+ Prior ADP Workforce Now experience (Required)
  • 2+ years knowledge of general HR practices and procedures (Preferred)
  • Diligent and have a strong work ethic
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality as well as maintain the integrity of the overall Credit Union compensation philosophy
